(OLNEY) The Olney VFW will have its next Queen of Hearts drawing, all open to the public, at 4:00 this Sunday afternoon. The jackpot is now up to $8,709 if the winner is present, and remember, the drawing is live-streamed on the VFW Post page on Facebook. Tickets are on sale right up until draw time at 4:00 Sunday, with the VFW Post doors opening at 1:00.
(STE. MARIE) The 187th Annual Pre-Labor Day Church Picnic is this Sunday afternoon and evening in Ste. Marie. Served in the air-conditioned Parish Center, the Ste. Marie style half-chicken meals will be available in to-go containers from 3:00 to 6:00, priced at $12.00 each, with any leftover chicken to be sold from 6:00 to 7:00 while it lasts. Also from 3:00 to 7:00, there will be pork burgers, chips, soda, & ice cream for sale, plus various raffles, including big ticket, hand-made quilt, & basket raffles with the drawings at 7:00. Also a beer garden from 3:00 to 9:00 and some southern comfort music by “Soco” from 6:00 to 9:00. That’s all in Ste. Marie during the Annual Pre-Labor Day St. Mary’s Picnic this Sunday in Jasper County.
(OLNEY) The 2024 Chamber Bicycle Classic & Family Fun Fest is this Saturday in the Olney City Park with kid’s bike races, face painting, tattoos, carnival games, and free shirts for participants in the races. The schedule includes bike registration from 9:00 to 10:30, free activity booths open from 10:00 until the end of the races, and free kid’s races for those ages 2 to 12, starting with the AmTryke riders at 11:00. (WAYNE COUNTY) The 2024 Elm River Chowder is this Saturday in rural Wayne County, either six miles south of Clay City off of Route 50 or four miles east of the Rinard Crossroad off of Route 45. With the serving of chowder at around 12:30, folks should bring their own containers, but no plastic or glass, and it’s all by donation. With the chowder also served by the bowl, other food available includes pulled pork sandwiches, nachos, homemade pies, & more. It’s all on the chowder grounds on the northern bank of the Elm River. All invited.
(BERRYVILLE) The annual Berryville Community Chowder is this coming Saturday at the Community Building just west of Berryville in southeastern Richland County. With serving to start at 11:00, the chowder will be available by bowl along with other food, desserts, and ice cream, plus an amazing basket raffle, Amish baked goods, & a bounce house for the kids. Bring your own containers, but no plastic or glass, to purchase the chowder by bulk.
(GRAYVILLE) The Wabash Valley Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) is co-sponsoring the 2nd Annual Winchline Windup & Winch & Antique Truck Show this Saturday at the campground on the south side of Grayville. Running from 9:00 to 5:00, all antique trucks and winch trucks are invited, whether old or new, retired or not. Drive them or haul them, either way. Also, any & all current or retired winch truck drivers, swampers, & cat skinners are welcome with food available for purchase & more. Bring you lawn chairs.
(OLNEY) There will be NO Olney Downtown Market tomorrow due to the holiday Labor Day Weekend. The Downtown Market will resume a week from tomorrow, September 7th.
(NEWTON) It’s another Queen of Hearts drawing this Friday night at 6:30 at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton, with tickets on sale up until draw time, and a jackpot at $14,900. The Queen’s Menu tonight is all-you-can-eat tacos, hard & soft shells, plus taco-loaded baked potatoes, all at $12.00 per person, but dine-in only with no carryouts and serving to start at 5:00. (OLNEY) The Richland County Farmer’s Market is today from 10:00 to 2:00 under the pole barns in the Olney City Park. Expect farm fresh produce and more on sale for the public.
(OLNEY) All are invited to turn out and look over a new Veterans Display, entitled “World War II : The Pacific Theater” which will be open for viewing this Sunday, September 1st, from 12:00 to 6:00, at the Olney Memorial VFW Post 4226. Developed over the past several years by Kaleb Beavers, the Veterans Display includes uniforms, pictures, equipment, bring-backs, and more from approximately one hundred (100) local Veterans, all of whom served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. Free to all ages, everyone is encouraged to check out the moving tribute on display this Sunday at the Olney VFW.
