“WHAT’S HAPPENING” THIS WEEKEND

(WENDELIN) The Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin will host its annual Parish Picnic this Sunday beginning with a 10:00 morning mass and then activities and food available throughout the day until 10:00 that night. With lunch tickets on sale from 10:45 to 3:45, the chicken meal will be served in the air-conditioned Parish Hall from 11:00 to 4:00. Tickets will be $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under 5. Other food includes pork burgers, hot dogs, brats, nachos, and more, plus plenty of games and stands, over 140 prizes on the big raffle with tickets on sale through the day, a country store with baked items, crafts, & theme baskets, and plenty of live music with various entertainers. Check it all out this Sunday at the Holy Cross Parish Picnic in Wendelin.

(OLNEY) The Olney VFW will have its next Queen of Hearts drawing, all open to the public, at 4:00 this Sunday afternoon. The jackpot is now up to $7,101 if the winner is present and remember, the drawing is live-streamed on the VFW Post page on Facebook. Tickets are on sale right up until draw time at 4:00 Sunday, with the VFW Post doors opening at 1:00.

(OLNEY) The Richland County Farm Bureau invites everyone to its 4th Annual Pig & Swig this Saturday night along Whittle Avenue in downtown Olney. Beginning at 6:00, there will be plenty of food and beer truck sales, along with live entertainment, including Wes and Megan Hagan from 6:00 to 8:00, then to wrap things up, the Andy King Band from 8:00 to 11:00. It’s $10 per person, with children age 12 & under free. All are invited Saturday night.

(OLNEY) A cookout fundraiser will be held tomorrow at the Rural King Store in Olney, with the serving of pulled pork sandwiches, bratwurst, hot dogs, chips, and drinks from 10:00 to 1:00, or until sold out. All proceeds go to Project Community to help out those in need.

(OLNEY) The White Squirrel Saddle Club has announced that due to flood and wind damage at the East Fork Arena, the scheduled Tractor Show, Truck & Jeep Show, and all the activities associated with it has been cancelled for tomorrow and now rescheduled for later this month, on Saturday, August 24th. The patience of all is appreciated in this matter.

(SAILOR SPRINGS) The Clay City/Sailor Springs American Legion Post 230 has another first Saturday of the month breakfast this weekend with serving from 7:00 to 10:00 with all-you-can-eat biscuits, gravy, sausage, and drinks for a donation at the door. This month, all the money raised, less expenses, will be given to the Clay City PTA to benefit K-12 students for school supply needs this year. Members of the Clay City PTA will also be at the breakfast selling fundraising raffle tickets as well. That’s just off the Clay City/Dieterich Blacktop in Sailor Springs tomorrow morning. All are invited for good food, all for a good cause.

(OLNEY) The Richland County High School Theater Department 2024 Summer Mentorship Performance of “Harvey” begins at 6:30 tonight with the first of only two performances at the Richland County Performing Arts Center at RCHS in Olney. With the second and final performance tomorrow evening, also at 6:30, remaining tickets are on sale online at the Richland County High School Theater Department page on Facebook or at the door.

(OLNEY) It’s a “Back to School Bash” this Friday night at the Eagles Lodge in Olney, running from 6:00 to 8:00. Sponsored by Richland County A.B.A.T.E., the Kid’s Safety Bike Night will include various games, snow cones, a pie in a biker’s face throw, the chance to win various prizes, visit the Biker Safety Tent, and much more. All families are invited out Friday night.

(NEWTON) It’s another Queen of Hearts drawing this Friday night at 6:30 at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton, with tickets on sale up until draw time, and a jackpot at $12,885. The Queen’s Menu includes a choice of a ribeye sandwich for $12 or a pulled pork sandwich for $7, each with a side, and serving to start at 5:00.
