USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork on average last week around the state. Illinois’ average temperature was 67.4 degrees last week, 4.6 degrees above normal. The statewide precipitation averaged 0.39 inches last week, 0.80 inches below normal. As of Sunday, corn planted around the state reached 74% (compared to the 5-year average of 77%) and corn emerged was at 54% (compared to the 5-year average of 48%). Soybeans planted hit 67% (compared to the 5-year average of 64%) and beans emerged was at 45% (compared to the 5-year average of 33%). Winter wheat headed was at 63% (compared to the 5-year average of 77%). The statewide winter wheat condition was rated 5% poor, 35% fair, 49% good, and 11% excellent. Up until last night’s rain, most area farmers were able to get some long-awaited planting done, but many are still behind where they would like to be. Let’s remember “safety first” out there.
