(MT. CARMEL) In a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board, it appears a faulty spring switch may have caused the derailment of a Norfolk Southern train in Wabash County, near Browns, last month. While the mixed freight train with 167 cars passed the spring switch, 24 of the cars derailed and collided with a stationary train with 33 cars that was holding on adjacent tracks. As three tank cars ruptured, there were two crew members that were injured, with one being life-flighted to a trauma center as a precaution.
