(SPRINGFIELD) In this week’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, last week’s average temperature around the state was 80.7 degrees, that’s 5.1 degrees above normal. Illinois’ statewide precipitation was 1.54 inches last week, o.64 inches above normal. Both topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies in Illinois are above 80% adequate to surplus on average. As of Sunday, corn silking around the state is at 92% (compared to the 89% 5-year average) and corn in the dough stage was at 35% (compared to the 27% 5-year average). Statewide beans blooming are at 81% (compared to the 77% 5-year average) and soybeans setting pods are at 50% (compared to the 43% 5-year average). Both crops are still in mostly good to excellent condition, 71% for corn and 65% for soybeans. Area farmers continue their summer-time activities, such as spraying, mowing, baling hay, & more.
