THIS WEEK’S USDA ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS REPORT

(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report, there were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork on average around the state last week. The statewide average temperature was 68.7 degrees last week, 4.6 degrees below normal. Illinois’ precipitation averaged one-hundredth of an inch (0.01) last week, 0.66 inches below normal. As of Sunday, corn in the dough stage was at 92% (compared to the 5-year average of 84%), corn denting was at 62% (compared to the 5-year average of 47%), and mature corn was at 10% (compared to the 5-year average of 3%). Soybeans setting pods around the state were at 93% (compared to the 5-year average of 86%) and soybeans dropping leaves was at 6%. The crop condition as of Sunday for both crops is still mostly good to excellent around the state, albeit 73% for corn and 64% for soybeans. Farmers are reminded about “safety first.”
