The Newton City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting this past Tuesday, where they discussed and approved several key items:
- TIF Application Approval: The Council approved a TIF application for 103 South Jackson Street, granting 15% of the total project cost, amounting to $6,993.
- Cobra/IMRF Rates: The Council approved the continuation of the city’s Cobra/IMRF rates, effective from March 1, 2025, through February 28, 2026.
- Training Conference: Two city employees were approved to attend the Illinois Rural Water Association’s annual Technical Conference in Effingham later in February.
- Public Library Cabinet: The Council agreed to allow the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and the Newton Public Library to set up a small public library cabinet on the west side of the square.
