NEWTON CITY COUNCIL FEBRUARY 18, 2025 MEETING RECAP

The Newton City Council held its regular bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Here are some of the key highlights from the session:

  • Approved Actions:
    • Payment of all bills as presented:
      • $220,663 in pre-paid accounts
      • $134,026 in other accounts payable
    • Purchase of three new submersible water pumps for $12,000
    • A $2,500 membership contribution to the Chamber of Commerce, as recommended by the Finance & Audit Committee
    • A $1,270 dumpster reimbursement for 300 South Sycamore Street, as recommended by the Finance & Audit Committee
    • Annexation Agreement with Shannon & Crystal Woodard
    • Advertisement for two summer maintenance positions and swimming pool employees
    • Agreement to have an electric system study conducted by BHMG
    • Authorization for the City Attorney to proceed with drafting an ordinance regarding property owners’ responsibilities for rental properties
