(CHICAGO) Former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is no longer licensed to practice law in the Land of Lincoln. The Illinois Supreme Court ruled last week in favor of a motion to strike Madigan’s name from the state’s roll of licensed attorneys. The former chairman of the State Democratic Party began serving a 7.5 year prison term for public corruption last month.

(SPRINGFIELD) Proponents of the Illinois Medical Debt Relief Program has erased nearly $430 million in medical debt during its first year. To be eligible, individuals must be Illinois residents with household incomes at or below 400% of the federal poverty level, or their medical debt must equal 5% or more of their annual household income. The FY26 state budget includes a $15 million reappropriation to acquire and forgive outstanding medical debt next year.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Treasurer’s Office is currently conducting an online I-Cash Auction of unclaimed property, running now through this coming Sunday, November 30th. The Treasurer’s Office says this auction includes “Flying Eagle” coins from the 1850’s, Abraham Lincoln wheat pennies, various collector’s cards, plenty of jewelry, and much more. Shoppers can view the auction on the HiBid website or go to the State Treasurer’s website as well.

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has announced nearly $10 million in state taxpayer funding for 47 small businesses through the Small Business Capital and Infrastructure Grant Program. The grantees are businesses owned by Socially Economically Disadvantaged Individuals with a maximum of 25 full-time permanent employees or to Very Small Businesses throughout Illinois with less than ten employees.
