(CHICAGO) The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has returned a case involving an Illinois law banning electronic processing fees on taxes and tips to district court, citing the federal Comptroller of the Currency’s order issued last month to prevent the law from taking effect July 1st, as scheduled. Oral arguments in the case were scheduled to start this coming Wednesday, May 13th, however they have been cancelled.

(SPRINGFIELD) With long-living smoke detectors still on the market and required to be installed in Illinois, public safety officials say they want the cheap and less reliable devices off the shelves. It was late last week that these officials and many lawmakers called on the State Senate to make progress on House Bill 4328, which would ban the sale of some smoke detectors in Illinois. A previous law, passed in 2017, changed the requirements for what smoke detectors could by installed in homes and buildings. Now a smoke detector must be hard-wired to a home and must have a tamper-proof battery installed with a 10-year lifespan and warranty.
