NEW STUDY LOOKS AT CROP ROTATION PRACTICES

(BLOOMINGTON) A new study by University of Illinois researchers looks at all angles of the crop rotation practice by Midwestern farmers as many are compelled to plant corn year after year due to commodity prices and yield advantages. This comes after decades of research have pointed to advantages of crop rotation in terms of yields, reduced fertilizer needs, & soil health. Despite the environmental tradeoffs discovered by researchers, the economic analysis demonstrates that crop rotation is profitable with lower fertilizer rates.
