LOCAL ACTIVITIES LATER THIS WEEK

(OLNEY) While the 2025 Olney Arts Council’s Fall Festival is not until Saturday, September 27th, five weeks from this coming Saturday, those interested in having a booth set up at the annual event are encouraged to get their booth registration forms filled out and submitted as soon as possible. The forms are available online on the olneyartscouncil.com/fall-festival website. The last Saturday in September event will feature arts & crafts, great food booths, live music, an art show, children’s activities, & more throughout the day from 9:00 to 4:00.


(OLNEY) Here’s what’s going on at the Olney Public Library next week :
THURSDAY (8/28/25) : it’s the monthly Lego Club at 4:00 for children ages 5 to 11 where they can complete the monthly challenge or create their own build – all Legos are provided
TUESDAY (8/26/25) : Lawyer in the Library program, from 4:00 until 6:00 – individuals can meet with a licensed lawyer to ask about civil court questions & more – those interested must call the Olney Public Library at 618-392-3711 to pre-register in advance

(NEWTON) The Second Annual Newton American Legion Smoke-Off Barbeque Contest is coming up this weekend with all the activities to be held on the Jasper County Fairgrounds in Newton. With all the Barbeque Teams welcome to set up Friday afternoon, the Beer Garden will open at 4:00 with live music at 6:00 and the next Queen of Hearts drawing at 6:30. Then Saturday starts with a Flea Market at 8:00 along with Car Show registration. The Beer Tent opens at 11:00 with the Barbeque Contest to start at 1:30 when the Peoples Choice Tasting begins with a $15 armband to check out all the wings, brisket, ribs, and pulled pork to be tasted with the Peoples Choice voting. The special Kids Barbeque competition begins at 3:00, plus raffle tickets for sale with various items to win, along with Shriner’s and their food, an Armed Forces Museum, Nasby Chainsaw Art, live music with Randy Kemme and Thunder Road, an Apple Pie Contest, and more. (OLNEY) The Olney Central College Library Gallery will showcase the work of alumni artist Rudy Kistler in a special one-night-only exhibition this Friday night from 5:00 to 8:00. The exhibit, titled The Long Road Home, will feature new landscape and still life paintings, all of which will be available for purchase Friday night. While beginning his artistic journey at Olney Central College, Kistler has advanced his studies at The School of the Art Insitute in Chicago and to The National Art School in Sydney, Australia. All ages are invited out to view and possibly purchase some of the art this Friday night at the OCC Library Gallery.
