(SPRINGFIELD) In last Friday’s USDA Illinois Hogs & Pigs Report : Illinois’ inventory of all hogs and pigs on March 1st, 2024 was 5.60 million head up 3% from last year : the breeding inventory, at 670,000 head, was up 20,000 from a year ago : Illinois’ market hog inventory, at 4.93 million head, was up 3% from last year : the December-February 2024 pig crop, at 3.30 million head, was up 11% from 2023 : sows farrowing during this period totaled 300,000 head, up 20,000 from a year ago : and the average pigs saved per litter was 11.00 for the December-February period, compared with 10.60 last year : go to www.nass.usda.gov.
