JASPER COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING RECAP (02/21/2024)

(NEWTON) The Jasper County School Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting in February last night in Newton. The Board : approved the payment of all bills as presented : approved an amended School Calendar for FY24 : approved a contract for the Jasper County School District with Pepsi MidAmerica : heard an update on the Community Partnership Grant, which is paying for various field trip fees, for magazines and videos to increase cooperation and relationships between school and community, for portable rest rooms for the Jasper County Fairgrounds, and for other Out of District Grant Writer fees – the Grant funds will also pay for ballfield improvements & the NCHS Greenhouse project : in personnel matters – accepted a retirement resignation from Norman Short as District Maintenance – accepted the resignation from Jordan Baker as a District Paraprofessional – filled four employment positions for the 2024-2025 school year, including Abby Frohning as Newton Elementary Guidance Counselor, Josey Hyatt as Jasper County Junior High School Guidance Counselor, and Madison Healy and Sidney Mayberry as Newton Elementary School Teachers – also hired members for the Strong Girls and Strong Boys Programs at NES – hired Cody Beam as NCHS Assistant Softball Coach for this spring – and approved a contract extension for Jasper County Superintendent Joe Sornberger through the 2027-2028 school year with a base salary of $146,000 for the 24-25 school year and a 4% pay increase annually over the life of the contract : next regular monthly meeting will be March 18th.
