(MT. VERNON) The investigation is continuing into an early morning deadly shooting on this Monday down in Mt. Vernon. It was at just before 1:00 this morning that Mt. Vernon Police, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Personnel, and others were called to the scene to find several people shot & needing medical services. Two men pronounced deceased at the scene were 26 year old Demonta Woodward of Mounds and 20 year old Zomarrius Williams of Mt. Vernon. While five other unidentified people are being treated at the local hospital, 22 year old Jerria Smith of Mt. Vernon has been arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm and for obstruction of justice, plus more arrests and charges are anticipated, although no other details are available on those injured. Authorities say at least 100 to 150 people were the location of the shooting for a non-sanctioned street event.
