(CHICAGO) The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office is planning to resume efforts to ban insurance companies from using age, credit scores, and zip codes to determine auto coverage rates. A press conference scheduled for today in Chicago will announce the “Driving Change” campaign. Previous efforts failed after opponents of the plan said the restrictions would raise premiums and drive insurance companies out of Illinois.

(ELGIN) The Illinois Commerce Commission is encouraging Northern Illinois Gas Company (NICOR) customers to publicly comment on the utility’s proposed rate hike at a hearing tomorrow evening in Elgin. NICOR has filed a request for a $308.6 million general increase in January earlier this year. Customers unable to attend the Thursday night hearing can submit comments via the ICC website or by calling the ICC’s Consumer Services Division.

(SPRINGFIELD) A study by a Las Vegas law firm has revealed that Illinois has the second highest gun violence rate across America. The Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyer group analyzed shooting incident data between 2014 and 2024 via “The Trace” database. Illinois had 288 shooting incidents per 100,000 residents during the ten year period, second only to Louisiana. Over 90% of the incidents though occurred in the northern third of the state.

(SPRINGFIELD) Illinois state workers are getting raises faster and making 9.5% more in salary than private sector workers. According to the Illinois Policy Institute, Illinois public sector pay has grown 57% faster than private sector pay between 2021 and 2024. Illinois government employees currently make an average salary of between $84,000 and $86,000.
