ILLINOIS STATE NEWS BRIEF (05/15/2024)

(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office is reporting last month it returned nearly $21 million to statewide residents as part of the I-CASH program. The total for April included over $19 million in cash and interest, along with nearly $1 million in stock value that was returned to over 16,000 people. So far this year, the State Treasurer’s Office says it has returned over $77 million to state residents. Learn more at illinoistreasurer.gov.

(CHAMPAIGN) April was warmer and wetter than normal for Illinois, that’s according to the latest monthly report from the Illinois State Water Survey in Champaign. While last month was the 11th wettest April on record, the statewide average precipitation was at 5.91 inches, an inch and two-thirds (1.67) above normal. It was the 18th warmest April on record with an average temperature at 55 degrees, just over 2 degrees above the 1991-2020 normal for the fourth month of the year. (SPRINGFIELD) A new study has ranked Illinois as the “most normal state in the nation.” Data compiled by the Washington Post considered thirty (30) socioeconomic factors, such as race, religion, education, income, and social issues, and found that the Land of Lincoln was the state that most closely resembled the American average.

(DU QUOIN) The Du Quoin State Fair has announced four grandstand acts in addition to harness racing and its ARCA and USAC auto races, all coming up later this summer. With tickets to go on sale at the grandstand box office this Saturday morning from 8:00 to 12:00, during the 100 Days Out Celebration on the fairgrounds, the public is invited with a plant sale, book sale, and concessions also available. The Ticketmaster sales will then begin Saturday afternoon. The grandstand lineup so far includes Mitchell Tenpenny / Saturday (August 24th), The Marshall Tucker Band / Sunday (August 25th), Classic Rock Band Kansas / Thursday (August 29th), and Ashley McBryde / Friday (August 30th). Two more headline acts are yet to be announced. The Du Quoin State Fair is scheduled for August 23rd through September 2nd. More details are on the Fair’s website at dsf.illinois.gov.
