(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Comptroller’s Office announced yesterday it has temporarily suspended operations and filed a complaint to permanently revoke the license of a crematory business in Chicago Heights. The move against Heights Crematory is in response to violations documented by comptroller staff members, including improper storage of bodies, telling lies to office auditors, and failing to maintain records, among others.

(CHICAGO) Pritzker family matriarch Marian “Cindy” Pritzker has passed away at the age of 101. The wife of Hyatt Hotels founder Jay Pritzker and mother of their five children, the Kenwood native was also the aunt of Governor J.B. Pritzker and took him in at the age of 12 after his parents died. She was known for her support of Chicago’s public libraries.

(SPRINGFIELD) An Illinois man has become the first American to win the Los Angeles Marathon in 31 years. Matt Richtman, an Elburn native who went to high school in Maple Park, won this year’s race, finishing three minutes faster than the second place finisher from Kenya. It was only Richtman’s second-ever marathon with the first being the Twin Cities Marathon in October of last year.

(SPRINGFIELD) More than 7,000 students will visit Illinois state parks, natural areas, museums, and other natural resources sites this year to learn about conservation and nature. It’s all thanks to grant funding through the Illinois Biodiversity Field Trip Grant Program and the State DNR. More than $99,000 in funding was awarded for a total of 113 student field trip grants, which went to schools in 32 of Illinois’ 102 counties.
