(SPRINGFIELD) The State Department of Revenue is encouraging the residents of Illinois to take advantage of savings offered by the newly expanded Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit, a benefit that helps low to moderate income workers get a tax break. For tax year 2023, coverage has been expanded to include taxpayers with an IRS-issued Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, as well as workers ages 18 to 24 and those over 65. Those eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit automatically qualify for the state credit.
(CHICAGO) A group of demonstrators will be allowed outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this summer, despite opposition from Democratic officials. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the city failed to respond to a permit application within its own 10-day deadline and now must allow the group called “The Poor People’s Army” to protest at the DNC later this year in August.
(SPRINGFIELD) Hundreds of people attended a meeting in Gibson City in regard to a newly proposed CO2 pipeline in central Illinois. The Coalition To Stop CO2 Pipelines’ meeting discussed the new plan to build a pipeline to store carbon dioxide. The company, One Earth Sequestration, says the pipeline would be able to transport 4.5 million metric tons of CO2, leaving space for other ethanol-producing facilities to reduce their carbon footprints.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Fair has added a second concert. It will be award-winning country music artist Jordan Davis headlining the grandstand show on Tuesday, August 13th. With his sixth number one hit, Next Thing You Know, Davis’ songs have been streamed 4 billion times worldwide. The Illinois State Fair will run August 8th through the 18th.
