(BLOOMINGTON) The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors met this past Monday in Bloomington, where some key decisions were made, affecting schools and high school athletes from throughout Illinois. Here’s a look at a few of those decisions :
- beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, a 35-second shot clock will be required for usage in all varsity girls and boys basketball games – shot clock usage for lower-level contests will be determined by conferences and via mutual agreements in non-conference games
- also in girls and boys basketball, a new state final time schedule has been approved, changing to a three day event, ensuring at least a two-day experience for all teams
- in bass fishing, beginning next year in 2025, the state finals will be held at Lake Shelbyville with the contract running for the next five years – the IHSA was the first high school state association in the nation to hold a state championship when the inaugural state finals were held at Carlyle Lake back in 2009, where the finals have been held the past 15 years.
