FRIDAY WEATHER DISCUSSION (01/10/2025)

(OLNEY/NEWTON) As the approaching storm system brings moisture, all in the form of snow, to our downstate area today through tonight, we are sitting in the middle of the projected storm path, expecting anywhere from 2 to as much as 7 inches of snow, give or take, in our listening area, from north to south. Once the snow ends by later tonight, likely before midnight, we’ll have a slight warmup with some sunshine tomorrow, but yet another weather system will move through central Illinois Sunday night, bringing us some colder and drier air for the first half of next week. Stay tuned for weather updates and always monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for forecast details with possible alerts or warnings.

(NEWTON/OLNEY) The National Weather Service has two weather messages in place affecting our downstate area. While a Winter Weather Advisory in effect through midnight tonight for Richland, Jasper, Lawrence, Crawford, Clay, Marion, and all other counties to the north, calling for snow accumulations between 2 to 4 inches, a Winter Storm Warning in effect until midnight tonight for Edwards, Wabash, Wayne, White, and all other counties to the south, is calling for snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches. From I-70 to I-64, all drivers should be alert for difficult road conditions later today, especially on the secondary roads, and be aware of all snow plow and salt trucks on all state, county, township, and city roads and/or streets. Slow down and keep your distance from these working trucks.
