(OLNEY) Construction is slated to begin later this spring on a $3.15 million addition to Dr. Kent L. Wattleworth Hall at Olney Central College, which will house OCC’s Radiography & Nursing Programs. The official groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for next Wednesday afternoon, (1/15/25) at 2:00, will begin with remarks in the Dr. John D. Stull Performing Arts Center and then proceed to the construction site located on the north side of Wattleworth Hall. The 8,000-square-feet Applied Technology Center will feature dedicated classroom & office spaces with high-tech simulation and skills labs, plus the new facility will provide Radiography students with access to an energized lab on campus, a first in the program’s 30-year history. Other amenities in the building include a student lounge, laundry area, & added storage space. Funded in part by Illinois Capital Development Board monies, the IECC District also received local support with $400,000 in donations, including funds from the OCC Foundation, the Johnsie Flock Fildes Foundation, the Phyllis Fehrenbacher family, the Richland County Board, the City of Olney, Wabash General Hospital, and others. While limited site work has started, construction is expected to continue throughout 2025 with th goal to have the new addition to be up and running, ready for student use in 2026.
