‘WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND’

(NEWTON) The Jasper County Republicans are gearing up for the 2025 Lincoln Day Dinner, which is set for Saturday night, February 1st, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Newton. It starts with social hour at 6:00, with the dinner served at 6:30. The keynote speaker will be retired Judge Kevin Parker. With dinner tickets at $25 each, gun raffle tickets are also on sale from any Republican Committeeman. There will be plenty of door prizes and tickets will be available for purchase at the door that night. All are invited out on February 1st.

(OLNEY) The next Queen of Hearts drawing at the Olney VFW is coming up at 4:00 this coming Sunday. The jackpot will be over $3,000 to the winner, if present. Also, don’t forget this coming Saturday, February 1st, the VFW will host its first-ever Jigsaw Puzzle Speed contest. While the cost to take part is only $5.00 per member or $25.00 per team, with teams up to six members, all taking part will piece the same 500-piece puzzle and the clock will be running. There will be open puzzling and games at 3:00, with the contest starting at 5:00.

(DUNDAS) The Dundas Ruritan’s will be serving up breakfast this coming Saturday morning from 7:00 to 12:00 noon with the menu including biscuits, gravy, pancakes, sausage, milk, juice, and coffee. Tickets in advance are $7.00 per person or a dollar more, at $8.00 per person at the door Saturday morning. Children age 10 and under eat for $5.00 each. For tickets in advance, call Tony at 618-839-3613. That’s this Saturday morning at the Dundas Ruritan Building, breakfast fundraiser with serving from 7:00 to 12:00 noon.

(SAILOR SPRINGS) The Clay City/Sailor Springs American Legion Post 230 has another first Saturday of the month breakfast this weekend with serving from 7:00 to 10:00 with all-you-can-eat biscuits, gravy, pancakes, sausage, and drinks for a donation at the door. That’s just off the Clay City/Dieterich Blacktop in Sailor Springs this coming Saturday morning.

(NEWTON) It’s another Queen of Hearts drawing this Friday night at 6:30 at the American Legion Post 20 in Newton, with tickets on sale up until draw time, and a jackpot at $30,860. The Queen’s Menu includes buffet night for $13.00 per person with serving to start at 5:00. That’s this coming Friday night at 108 East Jourdan Street in Newton. All are invited.
