(SPRINGFIELD) It was this past Monday that the Illinois General Assembly passed House Bill 4439, which designates the soybean as Illinois’ official state bean. While Illinois is the nation’s number one soybean-producing state, with over 10 million acres of soybeans planted each year, this accounts for 16 percent of the total U.S. soy production. The proclamation also acknowledges the contribution of the 43,000-plus hardworking soybean farmers and ag-related workers across the state who are a part of feeding and fueling the world. The bill now goes to the Governor’s desk for his approval and signature.
