(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball over the weekend – the Cardinals split two with Pittsburgh
*  the Redbirds lost Saturday to the Pirates, 7-3 but beat the visitors last night, 8-4
here’s a look at how the rest of the Midwestern teams did in Major League Baseball over the weekend
* the teams that swept two games were the Twins, Astros, and Rangers
* those that split their two games were the Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Royals, and Tigers
* the teams that dropped both weekend games were the White Sox and Indians
the Cardinals are back at home this afternoon for a remake game rescheduled against the Reds in St. Louis
the Redbirds then head west for a quick three games series at Arizona starting tomorrow night

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Invitational Swim Meet was held Saturday at the Musgrove Aquatic Center
the Effingham Red Tide won the 12-team event by beating out the host TigerSharks, 980 to 925
* Charleston finished in a distant 3rd place with 393 points, followed by the Fairfield Piranhas at 341
* the Harrisburg Bullfish were 5th (198), then Marshall (195) and Greene County, Indiana (162.5)
* Evansville was 8th (162), followed by the Carmi Bullfrogs (113) and Wabash Valley Sharks (110.5)
* McLeansboro finished 11th (107), then the Brittlebank Barracudas of Mt. Vernon, Indiana (47)

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Recreation Council will host its White Squirrel Triathlon on Saturday, August 5th, and the registration now open – the 7th annual event will include a 200 meter swim at the Musgrove Aquatic Center, a 14.6 mile gravel-free bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run – there have been over 250 participates in past years, not to mention the 150-plus local and area volunteers as well – all proceeds help with the local Richland County Recreation Council programs and sponsorships – registration for the 2017 Triathlon is now available online at  www.rcrcolney.com/white-squirrel-triathlon  – sign up today

 

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Athletic Association’s “A League of Our Own” Ladies Fastpitch Softball is looking for teams for upcoming tournaments scheduled for the end of July thru October in Olney – teams must consist of players age freshmen in high school and older – for details, call Ed at  618-320-9590

 

(OLNEY)  the 8th Annual MS “Join the Movement” event is coming up on Saturday, July 29th, at the Richland County Middle School in Olney – it’s all to create a world free from Multiple Sclerosis – the activities begin with the 25 mile Bike Ride at 7:30 that morning, then the 5K MS Challenge Run at 7:35, the 5K Walk at 7:40, and the MS Walk which is Handicap Accessible starts at 7:45 – while the registration fees are waived for all Richland County youth 18 and under by the Carrie Winter Trust, the registration will be available one hour before each event – printable forms are available online at  www.olneyms.org  or on the “Join the Movement” Facebook page – all event participants and the general public are then invited to the Olney VFW for a meal at 5:00 that evening, followed by a live fundraising auction at 6:00 – the meal is by donation at the door, plus carry-outs will be available – all proceeds to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the local MS Chapter – again, for more details, logon at  www.olneyms.org

that means hundreds of swimmers with families & fans in town throughout today, tonight, and this weekend

* those that lost were the Brewers, Reds, White Sox, Royals, Indians, Tigers, and Braves
the Cardinals are back in the City of  Brotherly Love tonight for game two of the three game series

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney TigerSharks Swim Team was in action this past Saturday down at Fairfield
the Olney swimmers won the seven team event, beating out 2nd place Harrisburg, 247 to 194
* Carmi was 3rd with 131 points, followed by Fairfield in 4th at 120 and McLeansboro in 5th at 111
* the Wabash Valley Sharks from Mt. Carmel were 6th at 87 and Mt. Vernon, Indiana was 7th with 7 points
there were four Olney TigerSharks that were the top scorers in their respective age groups
* Owen Powell in the 15-18 Year Old Boys
* Noah Church in the 13-14 Year Old Boys
* Maria Mayorga in the 13-14 Year Old Girls
* Danielle Brown in the 11-12 Year Old Girls
four Olney TigerSharks finished second in their age group
* Carolyn Powell in the 13-14 Year Old Girls
* Judah Dicks and Reid Brown tied for 2nd in the 8 & Under Boys
* Kennedy Travis in the 8 & Under Girls
there were three Olney TigerSharks who were third in their age group
* Taegan Garner in the 15-18 Year Old Girls
* Bree Holdren in the 11-12 Year Old Girls
* Ari Leslie in the 10 & Under Girls
seven Olney TigerSharks finished fourth in their age group
* Jadyn Holubek in the 13-14 Year Old Girls
* Owen Davis in the 11-12 Year Old Boys
