(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball over the weekend – the Cardinals split two games
* the Redbirds lost Saturday night, 7-1 but beat the Diamondbacks yesterday, 3-2
* here’s how the other Midwestern MLB teams did on Saturday and Sunday
* those that won both games were the Cubs and Tigers
* those that split their two games were the Pirates, Reds, White Sox, Royals, and Indians
* those that dropped both games were the Brewers, Twins, Braves, Astros, and Rangers
with a limited schedule today and tonight, the Cardinals are off on this Monday
the Redbirds are back in action tomorrow night starting a three game series in Milwaukee

 

(OLNEY)  at the Illinois Junior League State Tournament in Rock Falls – the Olney All Stars fell short
* the young men from Richland County eliminated Evergreen Park on Saturday, 17-1
* Olney then won the first game yesterday over Warren Park, 4-0
that forced a second and final championship game yesterday afternoon
* but Warren Park won the extra inning affair, beating Olney in eight innings, 10-9
even though they didn’t repeat as the Junior League State Champions, they represented Olney very well
the Olney Junior League does return home as the Sub State Champs

(NEWTON)  at the 13U Babe Ruth Ohio Valley Region Tournament in Munster, Indiana last week
the Jasper County All Stars won two of their three pool play games
* Jasper County lost their first game last Thursday to Western Kentucky, 15-4
* Jasper County then won their second game on Thursday, beating the Wisconsin team, 11-1
* Jasper County won its final pool play game on Friday, beating one of the Indiana teams, 8-6
the Jasper County boys were one of six teams that enter the single elimination tournament
* they however lost their first game, again to Western Kentucky, 4-0

 (OLNEY)  the 12 Year Old State Tournament continued over the weekend in Olney’s Musgrove Park
its down to the final two teams remaining after the weekend games
* Moline beat Beardstown, 10-9
* Hinsdale beat River Forest, 8-4
* Beardstown eliminated River Forest, 4-2
* Hinsdale beat Moline, 13-4
* Beardstown eliminated Moline, 11-10
tonight’s championship game has Hinsdale up against Beardstown
should Beardstown win tonight, the second and final championship game will be tomorrow night
check it out, it’s all taking place at Musgrove Park in Olney, hosted by the Olney Little League

 

(OLNEY)  at the 11 Year Old Little League State Tournament up in Streamwood
the Olney All Stars are among the total eight teams that started things off on Saturday
* Olney lost its first game to Tri-Cities, 15-4
* Olney was then eliminated by Hinsdale, 15-2
the Olney 11 Year Old team finished the postseason with a record at 6-2
they came home as both District One Champs and Sub State Champs

 

(OLNEY)  in Summer Swim Team Competition – the Olney Tigersharks win again
the Olney swimmers won the Illiana Conference Championship by beating the five other teams
* the Tigersharks beat out host Harrisburg, 665 to 481 while Fairfield finished third with 306 points
* Carmi was fourth with 280 points, followed by Wabash Valley (110) and McLeansboro (73)

(OLNEY)  the Olney USBC will hold a meeting this Sunday night at 7:00 at the Olney Bowling Center – topics of discussion include the upcoming bowling season, the USBC changes, ideas for bringing in new bowlers, and other business – all league bowlers and those interested in becoming a league bowler in Olney are invited to attend the meeting – that’s this Sunday night at 7:00 at the Olney Bowling Center

 

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Recreation Council will host its White Squirrel Triathlon this coming Saturday – the 7th annual event will include a 200 meter swim at the Musgrove Aquatic Center, a 14.6 mile gravel-free bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run – register online at  www.rcrcolney.com/white-squirrel-triathlon

 

(OLNEY)  Richland County High School will host an athletic meeting for parents, coaches and student athletes who plan to participate in high school athletics during the 2017-2018 school year – it’s coming up tomorrow evening at 6:00 in the RCHS Sliva Auditorium – the Fall Sports coaches will also conduct meetings for their respective sports – all students who plan to participate in athletics during the upcoming school year should attend the meeting tomorrow at Richland County High School in Olney

 

(NEWTON)  here’s a note to all parents of athletes at the Jasper County Junior High School in Newton  :
*  the first practice for Junior High Cross Country is this morning from 7:30 to 8:30 in Sam Parr State Park at the White Oak Area – all Jasper County boys and girls are invited out
*  the first practice & tryouts for Junior High Baseball has been changed from today to tomorrow morning, from 8:00 to 10:00, at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park – all boys invited
* and another change, the parent’s meeting for all JCJH fall sports has been rescheduled for tomorrow evening, August 1st, at 6:00, in the NCHS Auditorium – that’s a change from tonight’s original date – parents of junior high students who want to participate in baseball, cross country, or softball should attend this meeting – parents will fill out all necessary forms, get practice schedules, game schedules, and pay the $25 per player participation fee – all athletes must have an up-to-date physical in order to begin practice

 

(NEWTON)  call the Newton Community High School office to purchase reserved seats for Newton Eagle football this fall – the general public can purchase reserved football seats at NCHS from 8:00 to 12:00 noon this morning and tomorrow morning – call or stop by the Newton Community High School office

* the Redbirds outdueled the Diamondbacks winning, 1-0.

* those that lost were the Braves, Reds, Tigers, Cubs, White Sox, Pirates
the Cardinals continue a four game weekend series against the Diamondbacks tonight in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY)  at the Illinois Junior League State Tournament in Rock Falls last night - the Olney All Stars lost a tough winner's bracket semi-final game to Warner Park, 2-1 as both runs scored by Warner Park were unearned, off of two Olney errors - Olney's starting pitcher, Braden Flanagan pitched well allowing no earned runs, three hits, and striking out eleven in five innings of work - catcher Gavin Dorn led Olney at the plate with his fifth double in the last five games, plus singles from Cole Lambird, Jace Greenwood, and Jarrett Fuson - Olney returns to action this afternoon (Saturday) at 3:30 against the Evergreen Park / Rochelle winner in today's first elimination round game at 1:00 - in order repeat as Junior League State Champs, Olney now has to win three games in a row, including two back to back games over Warner Park on Sunday - you can catch today's game on Freedom 92.9 to be followed by Cardinals baseball later tonight

 

 (OLNEY)  the 12 Year Old State Tournament resumed last night
Two games were on the docket:
* Moline defeated Beardstown in extra innings, 10-9 (9 innings)
* Hinsdale defeated River Forest, 8-4
Coming up today and the rest of the tournament:
* Beardstown will play River Forest in an elimination game at 5:30
* Hinsdale will play Moline at 8:00
* Then single games Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
That is the 12 year old state tournament being held right here in Olney at Musgrove Park.

* (a change)  the parent’s meeting for all JCJH fall sports has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, August 1st, at 6:00, in the NCHS Auditorium – that’s a change from next Monday night – parents of junior high students who want to participate in baseball, cross country, or softball should attend this meeting – parents will fill out all necessary forms, get practice schedules, game schedules, and pay the $25 per player participation fee – all athletes must have an up-to-date physical in order to begin practice

 

(OLNEY)  the 8th Annual MS “Join the Movement” event is today at the Richland County Middle School in Olney – the activities begin with the 25 mile Bike Ride at 7:30 that morning, then the 5K MS Challenge Run at 7:35, the 5K Walk at 7:40, and the MS Walk which is Handicap Accessible starts at 7:45 – while the registration fees are waived for all Richland County youth 18 and under by the Carrie Winter Trust, the registration will be available one hour before each event – printable forms are available online at  www.olneyms.org  or on the “Join the Movement” Facebook page

(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball last night – the Cardinals dropped a tough game last night
* the Redbirds were blanked by the visiting Diamondbacks, 4-0.
* here’s how the other Midwestern MLB teams did on Thursday
* those that won were the Indians, Cubs
* those that lost were the Brewers, Reds
* All the other Midwestern teams were idle on a shortened slate of games yesterday in the Majors
the Cardinals continue a four game weekend series against the Diamondbacks tonight in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY) We had no results reported to us from the Junior League State Tournament that continued last night up in Rock Falls.  There are, however, two games on tap for today including the next game for the Olney All Stars.  Olney returns to play later tonight for a game scheduled to start at 8:00.

 

 (OLNEY)  the 12 Year Old State Tournament got underway last night with opening ceremonies and almost a full game completed.  The tournament will return to action today with two games on tap.
*  at 5:00 today the game between Beardstown and Moline will resume play in the 7th inning tied at 7 apiece
*  30 minutes following the conclusion of that game, Hinsdale plays River Forest.
*  Then it is two games Saturday, and single games Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
That is the 12 year old state tournament being held right here in Olney at Musgrove Park.

* those that lost were the Reds, Braves, Pirates, Astros, Brewers, Tigers, Twins
the Cardinals start a four game weekend series against the Diamondbacks tonight in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY)  at the Junior League State Tournament last night - the Olney All Stars won their opening game by beating Evergreen Park, 7-0 in five innings after the game was cut short by lightning and rain - Trevor Zuber was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs and no hits thru four innings - Braden Flanagan thru a scoreless fifth inning - Olney's five hits included a Gavin Dorn double, singles from Ethan Rodgers, Gage Stevens, and Trevor Zuber, and an infield bunt single from Zach Duenas - with the Tournament schedule to be altered due last night's rain, Olney is likely to play again Friday night - be listening and watching for our broadcast schedule update

 

(NEWTON)  the Ohio Valley Regional 13U Babe Ruth Tournament is this week in Munster, Indiana
the 12 teams taking part will then play three pool play games today
the top two teams in each pool then advance to the six team single elimination around finals
* the Jasper County boys play this morning at 9:30, this evening at 5:00, and tomorrow afternoon at 2:00
* best of luck to the Jasper County players from the Newton who represent Illinois at State Champions
* other teams are from Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin
the tournament finals will be played on Saturday

the Cardinals go for the three game sweep tonight against the Rockies at Busch Stadium in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY)  the Illinois State Junior League Baseball Tournament started last night up in Rock Falls
there were two first round games in the double elimination tournament
* Evergreen Park beat Cicero, 11-0
* Rochelle beat Clear Ridge, 6-3

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Recreation Council will host its White Squirrel Triathlon on Saturday, August 5th, and the registration now open – the 7th annual event will include a 200 meter swim at the Musgrove Aquatic Center, a 14.6 mile gravel-free bike ride, and a 5 kilometer run – all proceeds help with the local Richland County Recreation Council programs and sponsorships – registration for the 2017 Triathlon is now available online at  www.rcrcolney.com/white-squirrel-triathlon  – sign up today

 

(NEWTON)  here’s a note to all parents of athletes at the Jasper County Junior High School in Newton  :
*  the first practice for Junior High Cross Country is next Monday morning, July 31st, from 7:30 to 8:30 in Sam Parr State Park at the White Oak Area – all Jasper County boys and girls are invited out
*  the first practice & tryouts for Junior High Baseball has been changed from next Monday now to next Tuesday, August 1st, from 8:00 to 10:00, at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park – all boys invited
* (a change)  the parent’s meeting for all JCJH fall sports has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, August 1st, at 6:00, in the NCHS Auditorium – that’s a change from next Monday night – parents of junior high students who want to participate in baseball, cross country, or softball should attend this meeting – parents will fill out all necessary forms, get practice schedules, game schedules, and pay the $25 per player participation fee – all athletes must have an up-to-date physical in order to begin practice

 

(OLNEY)  the 8th Annual MS “Join the Movement” event is this coming Saturday, July 29th, at the Richland County Middle School in Olney – the activities begin with the 25 mile Bike Ride at 7:30 that morning, then the 5K MS Challenge Run at 7:35, the 5K Walk at 7:40, and the MS Walk which is Handicap Accessible starts at 7:45 – while the registration fees are waived for all Richland County youth 18 and under by the Carrie Winter Trust, the registration will be available one hour before each event – printable forms are available online at  www.olneyms.org  or on the “Join the Movement” Facebook page

 

(NEWTON)  call the Newton Community High School office to purchase reserved seats for Newton Eagle football this fall – the general public can purchase reserved football seats at NCHS from 8:00 to 12:00 noon next Monday & Tuesday mornings, on July 31st & August 1st – call or stop by the NCHS office
