* the Redbirds fell to the Reds, 6-0

* those that won were the Cubs, Brewers, White Sox, Indians, Twins, and Braves
* those that lost were the Pirates, Royals, Tigers, Astros, and Rangers
the Cardinals are back in action this afternoon with the final of three games against the Reds in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf yesterday – Olney hosted a match at the Richland Country Club
Lawrenceville / Red Hill won the three team match by beating out 2nd place Flora, 163 to 179
* the Olney Tigers finished in 3rd place with 187 points
* the Match Medalist was Lawrenceville / Red Hill’s Nolan Tewell with a 2 over par 37
* Olney’s best round was shot by Coen McDowell at 45 with teammate Zach Duenas close behind at 46
* Olney’s Ryan Tolliver and Logan Muston each carded at 48
there were also four girls that played individually with no team scores recorded
* the two lowest scores were from Olney’s Madeline McKinney at 47 and Abigail Nealis with a 50
the Tigers are quickly back in boys action today at Casey-Westfield with a 4:00 start time

Triad won the varsity 1.7 mile race by beating 2nd place Olney, 56 to 89
* Marion finished 3rd among the various other teams with 118 points
here’s the top varsity runners for the Middle School Cubs
* Brooks Julian finished in 8th place – Holden Hough was 10th and Hudson Lathrop was 13th
* Olney’s junior varsity finished in 4th place as a team – top runner was Alex Diel in 11th place
in the Invitational’s 1.25 mile Open Race
* Olney’s top runner was Collin Rennier who finished in 4th place
the Olney Cubs and Lady Cubs are back in action tomorrow at the Olney Invitational at OCC

Traid won the varsity 1.7 mile race by beating 2nd place St. Bruno / Pinckneyville, 75 to 99
* while host Salem was 3rd with 120 points, Olney finished in 7th place with 211 points
here’s the top varsity runners for the Lady Cubs
* Allison Harness finished in 22nd place overall while teammate Carley Greenwood was 32nd
* Olney’s junior varsity finished in 6th place as a team – top runner was Rylee Bloomer in 3rd place

the Eagles beat Lawrenceville, 49-21 as Newton improves to 3-0 on the year, now 2-0 in the LIC
Newton jumped out to a 35-6 lead after one quarter putting five touchdowns and extra points on the board
* a 68 yard TD run by Peyton Doughty with the extra point kick by Ben Carr
* a 39 yard TD run by Peyton Doughty with a Ben Carr extra point kick
* a 91 yard TD pass from Connor Bierman to Trenton Duncan with the extra point kick by Ben Carr
* a 25 yard interception TD return by Bryce Hance with a Ben Carr extra point kick

the Tigers fell to Civic Memorial, 20-6 as the Tigers fall to 1-2 overall, still at 1-1 in the LIC
both the Tigers and host Eagles were scoreless in the 1st quarter
then both Olney and Civic Memorial each scored a touchdown in the 2nd quarter for a 6-6 tie at halftime
* a 20 yard TD pass from Dakotah Brown to Sutton Dunn with the two point conversion unsuccessful
the Tigers were scoreless in the 3rd quarter as Civic Memorial scored a touchdown
the Tigers were also scoreless in the 4th quarter as the host Eagles added one final TD for a 20-6 final

Lawrenceville won the triangular by beating 2nd place Olney, 23 to 35 – Mt. Carmel finished 3rd

* Tristen Payne finished in 2nd place while teammate Danni Murphy was in 4th place
* the 2.96 mile race winner was Lawrenceville’s Katie Moore – Mt. Carmel’s Jada Smith was 3rd
* Olney’s Gracie Julian, Abby Rauch, and Hallie Troester finished 11th, 12th, and 13th respectively

the Lady Eagles won the varsity match over Charleston in two sets, 25-8, 25-20

Newton won the junior varsity match in three sets and split the freshman match with one set apiece

(NEWTON)  the Lincoln Trail College Statesmen baseball team is returning to Busch Stadium this fall for an exhibition game – the Statesmen will play Lewis & Clark Community College from Godfrey on Sunday, October 1st – this will be the third consecutive year the two teams will match up against each other after a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium – tickets are now on sale which includes a ticket to the Cardinals’ final regular season game against the Brewers, plus the Cardinals will give out free ticket vouchers for a 2018 game next year, and then the Statesmen and Trailblazers game to follow as well – tickets for the LTC fundraiser are now on sale – call Coach Kevin Bowers at  618-546-2269  or by email at  This email address is being protected from spambots. the Lady Tigers won all six of the singles matches
* Logan Kauble won the #1 singles match in two sets, 6-1, 6-2
* Zoe Alexander won the #2 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-1
* Cait O’Dell won the #3 singles match in two sets, 6-4,6-3
* Riley Doll won the #4 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-1
* Paige Steber won the #5 singles match in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5
* Carmen Rodriguez won the #6 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-2

* the Redbirds beat the Pirates Saturday, 4-3 and yesterday, 7-0
here’s how the other Midwestern teams did on Saturday and Sunday
* those that won two were the Brewers, White Sox, Royals, Indians, and Braves
* those that lost two were the Cubs, Twins, Tigers, and Rangers
* while the Reds was the only team to split two, the Astros lost three games played over the two days
the Cardinals are idle today before a three game series starts tomorrow night in St. Louis against the Reds

* Illinois improved to 2-0 on the year with a 20-7 win at home in Champaign against Western Kentucky
* Southern Illinois University won its season opener in Carbondale over Mississippi Valley State, 55-3
* Eastern Illinois University is now 1-1 on the year with a loss in DeKalb, falling to Northern Illinois, 38-10

* Olney lost a non-conference game at Bethalto Civic Memorial, 20-6
* Newton beat Lawrenceville, 49-12
* Flora beat Casey-Westfield, 34-7
* Red Hill beat Paris, 32-14
* Marshall beat Robinson, 39-7
all but two of the LIC teams will be back in action this Friday, both Newton and Olney on the road

Olney returned home with the 1st place trophy as they edged out Teutopolis, 34.5 to 34
* Mattoon was 3rd with 27 points – Charleston and Champaign St. Thomas More tied for 4th each at 22
* Mt. Zion was 6th with 20 points, followed by Shelbyville (16.5), Casey-Westfield (15.5), & Salem (14.5)
* Effingham finished 10th (14), followed by Mt. Zion’s JV (3) and Mattoon’s JV (1)

Normal University High won the Class 2A 55-team event by beating 2nd place Sycamore, 144 to 167

* Gavin Kirby, Caleb Thomas, Tyler Hughes, Braden Nicholson, Owen Powell, and Collin Gilreath

(Fraternal Order of Police) will have a fundraising Golf Outing on Sunday afternoon, September 24th, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – there’s still room for teams of four players to sign up at a cost of $200 per team – it begins with a pulled pork lunch at 11:30 and a shotgun start at 1:00 – if any questions or to sign up, call Kevin at  618-839-5922  or the Country Club in Olney

 

(OLNEY)  the annual Richland Memorial Hospital Foundation Charity  Classic is set for Friday, September 22nd, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – it begins with registration and lunch at 11:00 and a shotgun start at 1:00, followed by the catered dinner served at 5:00 – there will be various prizes and more – the cost is $350 for a team of four, which includes lunch, dinner, golf carts, and golfing – plus there are $20 tickets for dinner only on sale as well – space is limited to the first 36 teams – all proceeds will benefit the Medical School Fund – for details or to sign up, call the Foundation Office at  618-395-6088
