(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball last night – the Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox, & Reds all lost  :  coming up tonight – the Cardinals again will host Arizona in St Louis, the Cubs are back in Pittsburgh, the White Sox will again host the Twins on the south side of Chicago, & the Reds are back in Milwaukee
 
(OLNEY)  in auto racing news – the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series opened its 2011 “Indiana Sprint Week” activities last night with the first of seven 30-lap features at the I-69 Speedway in Gas City – it was Dave Darland leading from start to finish, taking the checkered flag – the Lincoln, Indiana native is atop the ISW standings heading into tonight’s second race at the Kokomo Speedway – Olney native, Levi Jones, finished in a distant 14th place, but still leads the New National Sprint Car points standings

(FLORA)  meanwhile, it’s back to track racing tonight at the Clay County Speedway, just north of Flora, along U.S. Route 45 – it’s “hot laps” at 6:30 with racing at 7:30 – plenty of concessions & fun tonight

(OLNEY)  in Independent League baseball action last night, involving local talent – Fargo-Morehead beat Sioux City, 16-6 in the Independent Northern Baseball League – for the victorious Redhawks, Olney native & ERHS graduate, Phil Britton had a three-hit night with a home run, double, & single, upping his yearly average to .283 – the former OCC Blue Knight catcher was also involved in six put-outs – the Redhawks are looking for their third consecutive League Championship – for more, logon at www.fmredhawks.com

(NEWTON)  the Illinois High School Association is co-sponsoring a free educational symposium entitled “Playing It Safe : Changing the Mindset Around Concussion Safety” – coming up July 27th, three weeks from today, the program will be held at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, from 8:00 until 1:00, with the keynote speaker Mike Ditka, former player & coach – it’s designed to help athletic directors, youth sports volunteers, trainers, & coaches understand the hard-hitting facts about concussions & plan for the new Illinois legislation that will protect athletes when IHSA teams began practices next month – for more information, along with registration details, go online at www.northwesternmedicine.org/playingitsafe
