the Eagles won the varsity game against Hutsonville-Palestine, 69-39 as Newton improves to 13-4
* Collin Harris led Newton with 28 points while Zach Jansen added 15 points
Hutsonville-Palestine won the close junior varsity game, 40-37
the Eagles are back in LIC conference action Friday night when they host Lawrenceville at NCHS

(OLNEY)  in Girls Junior High Hoops last night – Olney swept two games on the road
the Lady Cubs won the 8th grade game at Mt. Carmel, 55-23 as the varsity remains unbeaten at 22-0
* Anna Blank and Kenzie Weiler led Olney with 21 and 16 points respectively
* with the win, the varsity Lady Cubs claim the Junior NEC Championship with a perfect league record
Olney also won the 7th grade game over Mt. Carmel, 33-27
the varsity Lady Cubs will host the Region 8 Class L Regional this Saturday in the Middle School Gym

* Olney beat Red Hill in the A Game, 33-15 led by Danielle Brown with 10 points
* Olney beat Red Hill in the B Game, 26-5 led by Allison Mitchell with 8 points
the Olney 6th grade girls are back in action this Friday night traveling to Mt. Carmel


(OLNEY)  in Boys Junior High Hoops – the WEAA Conference Tournament will finish up tonight
the tournament’s final three games will be played at the Middle School in Cisne
* Olney St. Joe plays Grayville in the consolation championship game at 5:00
* Geff plays New Hope in the third place game at 6:30
* Cisne plays Jasper in the championship game at around 8:00
also a three point shooting contest and the cheerleader awards will be presented as well


(NEWTON/OLNEY)  the 2018 Little Illini Conference Tournament begins this weekend
the 13-game, 9-team, double elimination tournament will be played at Casey-Westfield High School
the tournament begins with a single play-in game tomorrow night
* 8th-seeded Red Hill will play 9th-seeded Robinson
then the tournament’s four quarter-final games are this Saturday
* top-seeded Olney plays the Red Hill / Robinson winner at 3:00
* 4th-seeded Casey-Westfield plays 5th-seeded Flora at 4:30
* 2nd-seeded Paris plays 7th-seeded Lawrenceville at 6:00
* 3rd-seeded Marshall plays 6th-seeded Newton at 7:30
the semi-finals are then next week
* the winners bracket on Tuesday night at 6:00 and 7:30
* the consolation bracket next Wednesday night at 6:00 and 7:30
the tournament’s final three games will be played a week from tomorrow night, on January 18th
* the 5th place, consolation championship, game at 5:00
* the 3rd place game at 6:30
* and the championship game at 8:00
fans are reminded of the admission information at the Casey-Westfield High School
* admission is $4.00 per person, for both adults and students alike
* the gates will open 30 minutes prior to the first game of the day or night
concessions will be sold in the school cafeteria near the northeast gym entrance
no signs, no placards, or artificial noisemakers are allowed in the gym during the tournament

(OLNEY)  Olney Central College will host host its annual Winter Youth League Baseball Camp
* the camp will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 25th, from 1:00 to 4:00
* the camp will be conducted at both the OCC Gymnasium and at Britton's Bullpen in Olney
* led by the Blue Knights coaching staff and players, the camp will focus all baseball skills
* the cost for the one day camp is $60 per player
* campers will need to bring their baseball gloves, a bat, a batting helmet, and tennis shoes
* it’s for boys ages 5 thru 12

* the camp will be held in the Olney Central College Gymnasium
* led by the Lady Knights coaching staff & players, the camp will focus on hitting and defense
* the cost for the camp is $20 per player
* campers should bring their gloves, bats, helmets, and tennis shoes
* girls, ages 6 to 12, will meet in the morning from 10:00 to 12:00 noon
* girls, ages 13 to 17, will meet in the afternoon from 12:00 noon to 2:00
