(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball last night – the Cardinals were idle
here’s how the Midwestern teams did on Monday’s limited 8-game schedule
* those that won were the Pirates, White Sox, Indians, and Rangers
* those that lost were the Brewers, Royals, and Tigers
* along with the Redbirds, the others that were idle Monday were the Cubs, Reds, Twins, Astros, & Braves
the Cardinals start a three game series starts tonight against the Reds at Busch Stadium in St. Louis

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Tennis yesterday – Olney won on the road at Charleston, 9-0
the Lady Tigers won all six of the singles matches
* Logan Kauble won the #1 singles match in two sets, 6-1, 6-2
* Zoe Alexander won the #2 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-1
* Cait O’Dell won the #3 singles match in two sets, 6-4,6-3
* Riley Doll won the #4 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-1
* Paige Steber won the #5 singles match in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-5
* Carmen Rodriguez won the #6 singles match in two sets, 6-3, 6-2
Olney also won all three of the doubles matches, each in two sets apiece
* Logan Kauble and Haven Doll won the #1 doubles match, 6-1, 6-1
* Cait O’Dell and Katie Hostetter won the #2 doubles match, 6-0, 6-1
* Zoe Alexander and Riley Doll won the #3 doubles match, 6-2, 6-1
the Lady Tigers are back on the courts this Thursday as they travel south to Fairfield

 

(NEWTON)  in Girls High School Tennis yesterday – Newton won at Effingham, 7-2
the Lady Eagles won all of the six singles matches and took one of the three doubles matches

the Lady Eagles are quickly back in action today as they travel to Casey-Westfield High School

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Soccer yesterday – Olney played South Knox to a 1-1 tie
the Tigers hosted the Indiana team out on Ed Webber Field at Olney Central College
* Olney’s lone goal was scored by Jacob McVicker
* Olney had a very good game in goal by Isaac Pampe
the Soccer Tigers are back in action today as they travel south to Herrin

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Soccer yesterday – Newton won over Altamont, 7-1
* Newton’s Nacho Moragues led all players with 3 goals scored, plus he had an assist as well
* scoring one goal each were Ben Carr, Jack Chapman, Ross Farley, and Cole Farley
* other assists were made by Sean Brody, Jack Chapman, and Greg Shinn
at 7-0-2, the Soccer Eagles are back in action Saturday as they travel north to Georgetown-Ridge Farm

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf yesterday – Olney a tough match at Charleston, 150 to 213
* the Tiger’s top round was Ryan Tolliver’s 52
* Olney’s Ethan Rodgers and Coen McDowell each shot a 53 and Zach Duenas had a 55
* the Match Medalist was Charleston’s Ben Lanman with a 1 under par 35
the Tigers are back at it tomorrow hosting Lawrenceville / Red Hill and Flora at the Richland Country Club

* Teutopolis beat South Central, 10-0
Girls Tennis  :

Class AA @ Newton  :  Bridgeport Red Hill beat Effingham, 11-8
Class AA @ Champaign  :  Tolono Unity beat Shelbyville Moulton, 10-1
Class A @ Casey  :  Casey-Westfield beat Teutopolis, 5-0
Class A @ Altamont  :  Windsor beat Kinmundy South Central, 4-1
Class A @ Villa Grove  :  Paris Crestwood beat Georgetown Mary Miller, 2-1
these Regional Champions advance to their respective IESA Softball Sectionals coming up on Saturday

 

(NEWTON)  in Junior High Baseball yesterday – Jasper County ended the regular season with a win
the Junior Eagles beat Paris Mayo, 13-2
* the winning pitcher was Mason Mulvey
* top hitter was Dalton Baltzell with two singles
the 17-2 Jasper County boys begin IESA Regional action Saturday at Lawrenceville

 

(NEWTON)  the upstate IESA Baseball Regionals get started with quarter-final action today

                                  LOCAL AND AREA SPORTS REMINDERS

 

(NEWTON)  the Lincoln Trail College Statesmen baseball team is returning to Busch Stadium this fall for an exhibition game – the Statesmen will play Lewis & Clark Community College from Godfrey on Sunday, October 1st – this will be the third consecutive year the two teams will match up against each other after a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium – tickets are now on sale which includes a ticket to the Cardinals’ final regular season game against the Brewers, plus the Cardinals will give out free ticket vouchers for a 2018 game next year, and then the Statesmen and Trailblazers game to follow as well – tickets for the LTC fundraiser are now on sale – call Coach Kevin Bowers at  618-546-2269  or by email at  This email address is being protected from spambots. (OLNEY)  the Richland County F.O.P. (Fraternal Order of Police) will have a fundraising Golf Outing on Sunday afternoon, September 24th, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – there’s still room for teams of four players to sign up at a cost of $200 per team – it begins with a pulled pork lunch at 11:30 and a shotgun start at 1:00 – if any questions or to sign up, call Kevin at  618-839-5922  or the Country Club in Olney

 

(OLNEY)  the annual Richland Memorial Hospital Foundation Charity  Classic is set for Friday, September 22nd, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – it begins with registration and lunch at 11:00 and a shotgun start at 1:00, followed by the catered dinner served at 5:00 – there will be various prizes and more – the cost is $350 for a team of four, which includes lunch, dinner, golf carts, and golfing – plus there are $20 tickets for dinner only on sale as well – space is limited to the first 36 teams – all proceeds will benefit the Medical School Fund – for details or to sign up, call the Foundation Office at  618-395-6088
