(OLNEY)  An approaching cold front will bring us our next chance of rain late tonight thru early tomorrow morning – that’s after a full day of sunshine on this Labor Day, although some clouds will start to build in this afternoon – then after the rain ends a little after sunrise tomorrow morning, we’ll gradually return to a sunny sky tomorrow – plus cool and dry conditions for the rest of this week – listen for weather updates.


(NEWTON)  The Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies around the state are continuing their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign – authorities are out in extra force looking for those driving impaired and not buckled up – plus the enforcement also includes all waterways in Illinois as DNR Conservation Police are also out in extra force looking for those impaired & not wearing safety flotation devices on statewide lakes and rivers – the statewide safety initiative runs thru tomorrow night.


(NEWTON)  While September is National Preparedness Month, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is joining with emergency management agencies around the state to encourage people to spend a few moments during September on disaster preparedness – the theme is “Disasters Don’t Plan Ahead / You Can” as statewide residents are urged to set aside time to discuss emergency plans with family members and develop a plan to stay safe when disaster strikes – for tips from IEMA, logon at www.Ready.Illinois.gov.


(OLNEY)  The Du Quoin State Fair is wrapping things up today with its final few hours of activities on the fairgrounds – today is being observed as Family Day with this afternoon’s highlight event, ARCA car racing at 3:00 – the carnival rides, fair food, & more continue thru tonight – logon at  www.duquoinstatefair.net.


(OLNEY/NEWTON)  All area blood donors are encouraged to get out and give blood at their next chance – here’s the list of all upcoming regional blood drives   :  this morning at the Home Depot in Mattoon from 8:00 to 12:00 noon  :  tomorrow at the KC Hall in Teutopolis from 1:30 to 6:30  :  Wednesday at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 12:15 to 7:15  :  Wednesday at the Toledo Christian Church from 2:00 to 6:00  :  Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Olney from 12:00 to 5:00  :  all blood types & platelets are very much needed to help replenish the low blood supplies in our region & surrounding area.


(OLNEY/NEWTON/NOBLE)  With today’s observance of Labor Day, residents are reminded that all Village and City Halls are closed today  :  Republic Services is not hauling any trash on this Labor Day – the trash collections will run a day later than normal for the rest of this week for all Olney, Newton, Noble, & area customers  :  Olney’s curbside recycling pick up will not be affected by the holiday and it will run on its regular schedule all the rest of this week  :  plus Olney’s brush dump is closed today, but will be open thru the remainder of this week – that’s this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10:00 to 4:00, each day.


    The annual Wynoose Chowder is Saturday evening with serving at 4:00 – also barbeque pork, fried chicken, desserts, ice cream, & drinks – all at the Wynoose Community Building – all are invited to attend

    The annual Dundas Ruritan Bulk Chowder is Saturday with serving at 11:00 - it's chowder by the gallon or half gallon, priced at $15 per gallon, plus homemade pies and other baked goods – all invited to Dundas

    The Grandparent Support Group will meet this coming Thursday morning at 9:30 at the Richland County Elementary School – it’s for grandparents or caregivers raising a child or those involved in the raising of a child – call RCES in advance (Tuesday or Wednesday) at  618-395-8540  for provided childcare, if needed

    The annual Labor Day Picnic & Tractor Pull is today in Ingraham – it’s the Truck Pull at 9:00 am, the Tractor Pull at 1:00 pm – a fried chicken dinner from 11:00 to 1:00 and a vegetable soup supper at 4:00 – plus other food, games, live music, and the raffle drawing at 6:00 – check in out all of today in Ingraham

    The Calhoun Club’s Labor Day Chowder is today with serving to start at 11:00 this morning – it’s chowder by the bowl or bulk, plus sandwiches, a variety of homemade desserts, and drinks – all invited

    The Pioneer City Rodeo is wrapping up in Palestine – the Gigantic Parade is this morning at 10:00, followed by free entertainment at the Band Shell at 12:00 noon – for more, logon at www.pioneercity.com
